Is it possible to reduce hair density in a certain area?
Yes. Some patients only want hair thinned out, this can be achieved usually within 3 to 4 treatments instead of the full course of 5 to 8 treatments. It’s a good idea to wait at least 8 to 12 weeks between sessions so the area can be assessed for the amount of reduction achieved during the course of treatments.
What’s the difference between Intense Pulsed Light and hair removal with a laser?
Both Lasers and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) can be effective for hair removal. However, Laser Hair Removal is generally considered safer and more effective than IPL (which is not a laser). The more specific wavelength of light seen in laser hair removal allows more accurate targeting of the hair follicle with lower risk of damage to surrounding skin making it safer on darker skin tones. With a choice of wavelengths on the Cutera excel HR laser, mostly all skin types can be safely treated. This would be impossible with most IPL machines and could result in burning of the skin. Many people don’t realize that there are significant differences between IPL and Laser.
What’s the difference between Laser and Electrolysis for hair removal?
Hair removal with electrolysis takes much more time because it’s a process that treats only one hair at a time, whereas laser hair removal treats many hairs with each pulse. A laser hair removal treatment for an area like the underarms can be treated in as little as 15 minutes and is far more comfortable. Electrolysis is a good option for someone with light or grey hair, as the laser requires pigment in the hair to effectively target it.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
In a word, no. In reality, laser hair removal is not considered a permanent process due to many factors including health and age. Invariably new hairs can grow back in different follicles over time. However, with an appropriate number of laser treatments, patients will notice a significant and acceptable amount of reduction in hair density. Some patients will elect to do a treatment once a year for maintenance. With the Cutera Excel HR Laser, patients can expect at least 80 to 90 percent reduction in hair after a series of treatments. The remaining hair will often be finer and lighter in colour and therefore much less noticeable.
Can I have laser hair removal if I have a tan or use self-tanning products?
For optimal results it’s important that laser hair removal is not performed on tanned skin or if you are using self-tanning products. This increases the risk of adverse outcomes, in particular laser burns and pigmentation issues. The energy level cannot be turned up as high with tanned skin, we would generally recommend you avoid significant sun exposure for at least two weeks prior to treatment. Treating tanned skin, particularly with IPL, is one of the primary causes of burns following laser hair removal.
What kind of textural improvements can you expect with Laser Genesis skin therapy?
Over the course of four to five treatments, Laser Genesis ™ can help restore the skin’s youthful glow and appearance by smoothing out uneven textures caused by aging, sun damage or scars. You will see a more creamy, healthy complexion as large pores are reduced in size, and minor imperfections are diminished. The individual treatment results are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments can be quite dramatic.
What can I expect before the Laser Genesis treatment?
You will not need gel, anesthetic cream or ice prior to treatment. Before the actual Laser Genesis ™ treatment, we will remove your make-up or moisturizers and, in some cases, might need to shave the area to be treated. Your physician will review all pre-treatment requirements.
Will vein reduction treatments hurt with using the Cutera laser?
Most patients experience a slight stinging sensation as the laser pulses are delivered to the vein. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required. Following the treatment, the pain is minimal to non-existent.
